テレクラス高木でございます。 早速ですが、これは
I*EARN会議に出席するためにきておりますプエルトリコからの第１便です。
Hi, this is Yoko, Teleclass International Japan. I
tried to send you daily reports from I*EARN Puerto Rico, but when I first did, I realized
that I did not bring the modem cable to attach my pc! I was so in a hurry when I left
Japan. That's why it happened. Luckily Ms Okamoto who participated this conference this
summer kindly offers her pc for my mail. The following is the first mail written in the
first day at Puerto Rico: I am staying at a hotel in Puero Rico viewing the ocean over the
window now It is sunny but humid as it is in Japan. I have not written quite a long time,
and if you do not mind, please spare a bit of your time and read my mail to you all. This
report will be sent through three different mailing lists and if you get more than one,
please ignore others. After the last Teleclass video conference on June 17th night, there
was Luma exchange by Hanazono High School with NZ. On the first day of July, Teleclass
Office had a guest from Kobe to discuss about "Language Expo'99" coming this
fall. Although this is my private matter, my sister's husband died of cancer and I was in
Tatuno city for three full days, which had not listed on my calendar, and which made my
schedule so tight afterwards. For last two days without sleep, I completed two report
papers of Teleclass Asia Forum, and Teleclass financial report to the Foundation. On the
day of my departure for Puerto Rico, did the house chores, packed, and left Japan.....
Because of my brother-in-law's funeral, I had to cancel the video meeting with Bob and
Virginia at Mr..Kikuchi's Office. Mr..Kikuchi, sorry for my sudden cancellation. They said
both enjoyed so much particularly your lunch. Tomorrow morning the Six I*EARN Conference
starts at University of Puerto Rico. Many teachers have already arrived in this city from
quite many countries. I have met two familiar teachers and glad to see each other this
summer again. One from Argentina, the other from Switzerland. This summer I am with three
more attendants from Japan. Mr.Kawamura at BBCC, Ms Okamoto and Ms Sugino at School
Online Japan. I think they will get I*EARN essence in different aspects back to Japan. ＜ＴＩＪ高木＞

7月11日 7時ホテルから専用のスクールバスでプエルトリコ大学（ＰＲＵ）へ。
同じホテルに宿泊しているＩ＊ＥＡＲＮ参加者が多くて
懐かしい顔の面々にすっかりリラックス。
レジストレーションと開会挨拶 地元バンドによるラテン音楽
昼食後、グループ毎にＰＲＵ生によるキャンパス案内 夕食後、8時までラテン音楽とダンスのソーシアルタイム
スクールバスでホテルへ。 発表：５０カ国から400名参加 7月12日
毎朝7時スクールバスで大学へ、夜8時大学を出る。
朝食・昼食・夕食は大学内カフェテリアで。 午前の部：
各国グリーテイング 創始者ピーター コーペンと一緒に。

可能性の報告・新しいテレクラス プロジェクト・その他の報告をします。 残念な
がら皆さんからのメールは、
ホテルで取っていません。 大学のコンピュータ センターで過ごす時間もまだ取れ

7月13日 午前の部
地元ｋ−１２教師がプエルトリコ大学と長年かかって育てた教育ネットワーク”Ｏｒ
ｉｌｌａ”（開催地）歴史と、
やがてＩ＊ＥＡＲＮに参加し、Ｉ＊ＥＡＲＮ−Ｏｒｉｌａとなった過程を、”Ｄｅ
Ｏｒｉｌｌａ a Orilla"（From Shore to Shore)と
いうタイトルで紹介。
ワークショップ第２セッションは、Ｉ＊ＥＡＲＮ Ｙｏｕｔｈによる”Ｂｕｉｌｄｉ
ｎｇ Ｇｌｏｂａｌ Ｖｏｉｃｅ”に参加した。
どうして日本の生徒達が海外での出来事に対して関心がなく、またどんなアクション
も取らないのか
不思議で、いったいＩ＊ＥＡＲＮ Ｙｏｕｔｈの中学生・高校生がどういう意識で動
き、具体的になにを
しているのか、知りたかったからである。 私を含む３人の大人と６０名以上の生徒
達でいっぱいの
教室で、Ｍａｒｙ（高校生）の司会で以下の問題で、グループワークがあり、私もひ
とつのグループに参加した。 Wha does "Building a Global Voice" mean?
Why do young people need a global voice? What has limited young people in the past from
having this voice? What are examples of when this has been accumplished? Unseccessful
examples Reasons why, successful & unsuccessful What does I*EARN have? What does
nation have? How can I*EARN and nation work togeter to build a global voice?
夕食後、病気で今年はお休みのＳｕｂｕｄｅに代わって、彼女の秘書役だと言う
Ｌｕｎ−ｙｉ（北京工業大学）と話し込む。テレクラスアジアフォーラム用の
ＩＳＤＮ回線１２８ｋをなんとかしてみるという頼もしい言葉。
I*EARN-USA主催"Laws of Life"完成祝賀会で：
全員４００名が２階オープンスペースに用意された祝賀会場に集まる。
整然と並んだ丸テーブルに、白いテーブルクロス・生花・プチケーキ・飲み物。
夕暮れの雲に、時折雷光が走る中、各自の手元にある２センチはあろうかと思われる
”Laws of Life： Essays From The Heart”のプロジェクトマガジンに、目を
走らせる。
Ｉ＊ＥＡＲＮ−ＵＳＡのジルとテルミの司会で進み、テルミ自身も自分の”Ｌａｗｓ
of Life”を語る。
Ｉ＊ＥＡＲＮ−ＵＳＡのスタッフとこまめに周りの世話をやきながら、すっかり溶け
込んで活躍している
テルミを見るのは、眩しくもあり、よくここまでやってきたと誇らしい。
中心となったコーデネーターのスピーチに続いて、参加国から先生や、または生徒自身が発表を
する。 常連のヨーロッパ系についで、アジアが結構ある。中国・インドが多い。モ
ロッコがあり、
シンガポール・タイランド・日本はテルミが飛び上がって参加を喜んでいた帝塚山学
院泉が丘高校の
参加である。 中国の高校生の流暢な英語を耳にしながら、辻先生も生徒とともに参加されたらとひとしきり思ったことである。
インドの教師によるパキスタンとの核実験に関するスピーチは、他のスピーチと一味
違い、シンと 聞かせれた。
今回のＩ＊ＥＡＲＮ会議を見ていると、来年の北京での開催を意識しているためか、
アジア色が少し出てきたようだ。 ＬｉＭｉｎ（台湾）の「アジア高校生」のワーク

Ｓｈｉｒａｌｉｃ（バンコク）の”Ｆｉｒｓｔ Ｐｅｏｐｌｅ Ｐｒｏｊｅｃｔ”の
ワークショップ・中国代表の上記のスピーチ・
モロッコからの多くの先生の参加・テルミの活躍などなど --------
終了後、会場で隣テーブルのJoanne（AU)と、Ｉ＊ＥＡＲＮプロジェクト"Painting
the Planet"について
話がまた盛り上がる。彼女のＰＣでＷｅｂサイトのハナオ中学校（日本）の書道での
参加を見る。 すばらしい。プロジェクトマガジンもいい。
またテレクラスに関して、ＶｉｄｅｏＣｏｎｆｅｒｅｎｃｅ用ＶＴｅｌで、ｋ−１２
対応するとのこと。 帰国後ＮｅｔＭｅｅｔｉｎｇで打ち合わせ

報告が後先になっていますが、７月１２日も新しい先生との出合いや、ｋ−１２や大
学でのテレクラスの可能性を含めた報告があります。圧巻は、I*EARN経験豊かなNYのカメラ先生に時間を貰って、
IEARNプロジェクトへの
アプローチをじっくりと聞き込んだことです。
明晩が最後の夜になりますが、時間が
取れれば書きます。 しかしI*EARN行事が夜１０時まであるということですから、帰国後になるかも知れません。
