1. THE PEOPLE OF KENYA

These two women have decided to do clothes weaving locally and sells these clothes
locally in the market to assist them with their children's school fees and food.

　Like many other countries of Africa, Kenya consists of many tribes and dialects. Some of the major tribes in Kenya include the MSASAI, LUO, KIKUYU, KALENJIN, LUHYAS,KISII,etc and many other sub-tribes. Each tribe is easily noticed by languange dialect, customs and manners!Tribes in Kenya vary from one culture and tradition to another.The lifestyle is comletely different and people speak different languages.The major National languages in Kenya are Kiswahili and English. Kiswahili is commercially used and it is a common language for all people. English is also used in offices, schools and is commonly used by many because Kenya was under British protectorate before independence.English as an instruction language is used in schools as early as lower elementery school children to High Schools, Colleges and Universities.Atleast one must know Kiswahili, English and the vehicular language.
　The Luo tribes in Kenya settled along the basin of Lake Victoria and most of them are fishermen.The Masai are herds-men and mostly they keep cattles. The Kikuyus are farmers and most of them settled along Mt Kenya. The Kalenjins are farmers and most of them settled in the Great Rift Valley.

１．ケニアの人々(ひとびと)

この２人(ふたり)の女性(じょせい)は地域(ちいき)で布(ぬの)を織(お)ってその布(ぬの)を市場(いち)で売(う)って、
子供(こども)の学費(がくひ)や食(た)べ物(もの)を買(か)うたしにしている。

　アフリカの他(た)の多(おお)くの国(くに)と同(おな)じように、ケニアにもたくさんの部族(ぶぞく)と方言(ほうげん)が存在(そんざい)します。ケニアの主(おも)な部族(ぶぞく)の名前(なまえ)はンササイ、ルオ、キクユ、カレンジン、ルヒャス、キシイ、などがあり、そのほかにも小部族(しょうぶぞく)がたくさん存在(そんざい)します。それぞれの部族(ぶぞく)は言葉(ことば)や慣習(しゅうかん)、生活様式(せいかつようしき)の違(ちが)いで用意(ようい)に区別(くべつ)が付(つ)きます。ケニアの部族(ぶぞく)は文化(ぶんか)や伝統(でんとう)がそれぞれ異(こと)なっています。ケニアの主(おも)な公用語(こうようご)はスワヒリ語(ご)と英語(えいご)です。スワヒリ語(ご)は商用(しょうよう)にも利用(りよう)され、ケニア人(じん)の共通語(きょうつうご)になっています。英語(えいご)も役所(やくしょ)、学校(がっこう)などで使われ、広(ひろ)く行(い)き渡(わた)っています。というのも独立前(どくりつまえ)までは英国(えいこく)の統治下(とうちか)にあったからです。英語(えいご)は小学校(しょうがっこう)から高校(こうこう)、大学(だいがく)まで学校(がっこう)の授業(じゅぎょう)で使(つか)われています。少(すく)なくとも、スワヒリ語(ご)、英語(えいご)と地方語(ちほうご)を知(し)っておく必要(ひつよう)があります。
　ケニアのルオ族(ぞく)はビクトリア湖(こ)の流域(りゅういき)にそって生活(せいかつ)しており、彼(かれ)らのほとんどは漁師(りょうし)です。マサイ族(ぞく)は遊牧民(ゆうぼくみん)であり、ほとんどが家畜(かちく)を飼(か)っています。キクユ族(ぞく)は農夫(のうふ)であり、ほとんどがケニア山(やま)の周辺(しゅうへん)に生活(せいかつ)しています。カレンジン族(ぞく)も農夫(のうふ)ですが、こちらはほとんどがグレートリフト谷(たに)の周辺(しゅうへん)で生活(せいかつ)しています。
