Origin of the name, “KISHIWADA”: 700 years ago, Mr.WADA, one of MASATOSHI KUSUNOKI’s family, built a castle in “KISHI”. (Former name of “KISHIWADA”) He then, was called the “Wada of KISHI”. Try rearranging the words. It becomes KISHIWADA! The famous KISHIWADA-castle, was built afterwards, by NOBUKATSU OKABE in the year of Edo. What is KISHIWADA Famous for? KISHIWADA is famous for the “DANJIRI” festival. Origin of “DANJIRI” festival: In 1703, NAGAYASU OKABE, the 3rd KISHIWADA-Daimyo, made a “KYOTO-FUSHIMI” shrine, inside the castle “SAN-NO-MARU”, to celebrate the repairment of YAMATO-river. He then invited all the people in town, into the castle, and prayed for rich harvest. This “INARI-festival” (INARI is the god of harvest) was the origin of “DANJIRI-festival”.
